Who Is SUFST?

SUFST lets students take on every aspect of developing a Formula Student race car, from initial design through to competition. The team's approach encourages students of all abilities and disciplines to contribute, creating an environment where knowledge and creativity come together. Like many teams, SUFST has continually improved its performance while embracing the transition to fully electric vehicles. This switch to sustainability is key for modern engineering and technologies, to help develop the future of the motorsport industry.

The Car Type

SUFST has been building race cars since 2012, with their most recent EV, Stag X, marking the team's third electric car and first to run in a dynamic competition event. It features a carbon fibre monocoque, carbon fibre suspension rods, and a full carbon fibre aero bodywork package, powered by a single EMRAX 228 motor. Stag X finished 18th at Formula Student UK, also winning the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity and Inclusion Award and 1st in Lap Time Simulation. The team is now developing Stag 11 using data from Stag X, and is returning to European competition at Formula Student Germany this year for the first time since 2019.

Southampton University Formula Student Team is made up of passionate students from a diverse range of academic and cultural backgrounds, all working towards a shared goal. By combining different skills and perspectives, the team creates opportunities for members to learn from one another while gaining practical experience in engineering, manufacturing, business and project management.
