Sponsoring UoN Racing: Formula Student 2026

What is Formula Student?
Formula Student is an international engineering competition organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), where university teams design, build and compete with a single-seater race car.
The competition plays a huge role in shaping the next generation of automotive engineers across Europe, giving students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in a highly competitive, real-world environment. Designing, building and refining a race car from the ground up is no small task. It demands a high level of attention to detail, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
University of Nottingham Racing
We're delighted to announce our sponsorship of UoN Racing, the University of Nottingham's Formula Student team.
Bringing together around 150 members from a range of disciplines, the team operates much like a professional engineering organisation, with students contributing across design, manufacturing, testing, business operations and sponsorship activities.
As specialists in measurement and testing, we are particularly encouraged by the team's focus on understanding how engineering designs perform in the real world. While simulation and analysis are essential tools, the ability to validate assumptions and make decisions based on measured data remains an important part of the engineering process.
This season, we will be supporting the team as they continue to develop. By gaining greater insight into how key components and systems behave under load, students can improve their understanding and build confidence in the decisions that shape vehicle performance.
"Through collaboration with Procter & Chester Measurements, the team aims to gain detailed insight into the real-world behaviour of critical systems. By measuring parameters such as strain and load paths across the vehicle, we can directly correlate physical data with simulation models. This is particularly important for new and unproven components, such as composite wheels, where understanding structural behaviour is essential for both optimisation and safety."

Our Support in Formula Student
As part of our partnership with Nottingham Racing, we'll be supporting their efforts to gather data from the car and better understand how key components behave under load by implementing strain gauging.
One of the team's aims this season is to compare simulation results with data collected from the car itself. By using strain gauges to measure how components behave in operation, students can see how closely their models match reality and use that information to guide future design decisions.
To support this work, we've welcomed members of the team to our facility for dedicated strain gauge training. Covering both theory and practical application, the sessions give students the opportunity to learn the process for themselves and understand how to get meaningful data from their testing.
Sponsorship is more than providing equipment, it's sharing experience and helping students gain practical skills that they'll take with them into industry.
We'll be following the team's progress throughout the season and look forward to seeing how the project develops.
"Ultimately, this approach allows the team to improve design accuracy, accelerate development cycles, and build a deeper engineering understanding across the group. The outcome is not only a more competitive vehicle, but also more capable engineers with practical experience in applying measurement, validation, and iteration in a high-performance environment."
