Health & Safety Policy

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Section 2(3)
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Regulation 5

It is our general policy to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the Health & Safety, and welfare, at work of our employees and the Health & Safety of any other persons who may be affected by our work activities and/or undertaking.

Our aim is to achieve a culture of ‘zero tolerance’ to unacceptable Health & Safety hazards and risks in order to underpin our commitment to prevent injury and/or cases of occupational ill-health. We will seek to continually improve our management of Health & Safety in order to fulfil this aim.

We will comply, as a minimum, with the requirements of relevant Health & Safety legislation and approved codes of practice and, as appropriate, implement guidance published by the Health and Safety Executive.

More specifically, we will ensure that:

  • All machinery and work equipment will be suitable for its intended purpose and will be maintained in safe working order;
  • Safe storage will be provided for all substances, they will be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and, as necessary, will be safely disposed of;
  • The workplace and working environment will be maintained in a safe condition (including fire safety) with adequate heating, lighting and ventilation;
  • Suitable welfare facilities (including first-aid facilities) will be provided and maintained;
  • Suitable personal protective equipment will be provided to eliminate or reduce the risk of injury or ill-health from hazards and risks that cannot be controlled by other means;
  • Employees will be adequately instructed, trained and supervised in the Health & Safety requirements relevant to their work, including the safe systems of work to be followed.

We will implement appropriate arrangements to ensure workplace situations that present serious or imminent danger (such as a fire) are identified and, as necessary, adequate arrangements and emergency evacuation plans are in place.

We will conduct suitable and sufficient ‘risk assessments’ of workplaces and work activities in order to identify any significant hazards and risks in order to establish the management and workplace controls required to fulfil our Health & Safety obligations. Where appropriate, we will seek to minimise unnecessary hazards and risks in order to ensure that Health & Safety is maintained.

To support our management of Health & Safety, we will seek to ensure the active engagement of our employees (and, as necessary, others) in ensuring its effective implementation.

We will ensure, if necessary, employees are provided with appropriate health surveillance.

We will appoint a ‘competent person’ to provide us with Health & Safety assistance in order to support the business in fulfilling its Health & Safety obligations.

Our employees (including temporary workers) and, as necessary, others are expected to co-operate with us in complying with the Health & Safety requirements and the commitments set out in this policy.

This policy will be brought to the attention of and/or otherwise made available to our employees (and, as necessary, any other interested parties).
